From childhood I was subject to severe colds, coughs, and sore throat. As my father and grandfather both passed on with tuberculosis, I fully expected to go the same way. So, what I greatly feared almost came upon me.

About twelve years ago, my doctor told me I could take my choice between death and the sanitarium. I went to the sanitarium once a month for treatment, and lived out of doors at home for several months. My throat hurt me even to talk or eat; and I could speak only in a husky whisper. Finally, a friend induced me to try Christian Science. I made up my mind that I must turn wholly to Christian Science and trust unreservedly to God. I found the address of a practitioner, and went to her. After a short talk I asked her to help me, and she kindly did so. I remained in the city ten days, having a treatment and talk with the practitioner every day. I came home a well woman, with a song of praise in my heart to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, and to the practitioner who so patiently taught and helped me.

That was ten years ago. Since then I have had slight troubles of other kinds, but can nearly always help myself. As I seldom have a chance to attend a Christian Science church or to talk with other Scientists, the Bible, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Christian Science publications are my teachers and daily help. Each year, as I learn more of God and His spiritual laws, life grows richer and more beautiful.
