Christian Science came to me six years ago, in answer to prayer. I had been a sufferer for nearly two years with a diseased organ, and cancer had begun to develop. I had lived in fear of this disease for many years; but God led me to Christian Science, which loosed me from this fearful bondage and set me free. Almost every day for two weeks the thought of Christian Science came to me. I spoke to my husband about it; and he said the same thought had come to him also, many times. I said, Then it is a message from God, and we must find out what Christian Science is; for we did not know anything about it. We made inquiries, and the following Sunday our little family visited the nearest Christian Science church. I shall never forget the peace which took possession of me during the service; and when I came home, everything seemed brighter. I had gained a glimpse of the true light, and the material darkness was beginning to disperse.
I got a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began very earnestly to study it with the Bible. Very soon the light of Truth dawned, and I caught a glimpse of the true God, the God who is Love; also of the true man, the perfect child of God's creating. As I studied and prayed more earnestly, the light of Truth became clearer and clearer, until it had destroyed all the material darkness of fear and false, mortal belief. Gradually, my condition began to improve; and finally I was entirely healed through the study of the Bible and Science and Health.
Some time later, I fell on the slippery footpath near my home. For a few minutes I was unable to rise. As I lay there, I declared the allness of God, trying to realize that "nothing apart from Him is present or has power" (Science and Health, p. 473). When I was able to rise, I found I could not lift my left arm. On examining it, being a trained nurse, I found that my arm was broken between the elbow and the shoulder. When I got into the house, I put my arm in a resting position, and then got my Science and Health and began to read. I read for some time. Finally, the thought came to me very clearly that my arm was healed; and, sitting in an upright position, I raised both arms above my head. The fracture was completely healed.
