About three years ago, when through loving friends I first heard of Christian Science and became acquainted with its nature, it seemed very peculiar, and I returned the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which had been lent to me. But even then I very often had to think of what I had read; and much of it became clear to me gradually. Since that time I have read the Heralds and pamphlets diligently, studied the textbook, and have received rich blessings therefrom. Then I found in Science that for which I had sought in vain in my old church,—an omnipresent, loving Father-Mother, God. I have attended the uplifting Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings with the greatest devotion, and would never wish to miss them.
With a grateful heart I am also able to testify to a healing received through Christian Science. Several months ago I had pains in my knee, which daily became more intense, and which extended upwards to the thigh and downwards to the tips of my toes. It was neuralgia, which I had had previously in another form, and which had been treated by physicians without permanent results. I tried to work mentally for myself at first, but without success. I could not get rid of the error; and the knee swelled enormously. Then I turned to a Christian Science practitioner, who most lovingly helped me. The pain lessened daily, and with my growing understanding that there is but one Mind and that this Mind, God, is good and permits nothing evil or ill, the discord vanished from my consciousness. After a short time I was completely healed. I also wish to mention that I had not neglected my household duties at all, which was made possible by knowing God's ever present love. I thank God daily for this knowledge; and with deep gratitude think of our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who, through God's grace, brought us the Christ-teaching.
