Permanent Business Building

Almost every one engaged in business to-day realizes, more clearly and forcibly than ever before, the benefits, blessings, safety,—yea, the absolute need,—of a plain, practical religion. In Christian Science he has found what he long has sought. It is counted on the asset side of his balance sheet; and he would find it more difficult to do without it in his affairs than any other element in life. He has learned the value of both the preventive and the curative qualities of Christian Science, and he depends on their help to solve his daily problems.

Christian Science is acknowledged to be a practical religion, logical and scientific. It is based solely on Truth; and no business can progress properly which lacks this divine essential. It matters not whether in the home, on the road, on land or sea, in the workshop or the office,—everywhere Christian Science, when properly applied, brings into the lives of its adherents fullness of peace, happiness, and prosperity; for therein divine Love is their guide, which promises, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

We should know the truth that, as the children of God, all real good is ours; and we should deny the encroaching belief that anything can interfere with our right business progress. It will then become manifest in all our affairs, because we shall be able to work out each daily problem as it presents itself, even as the Master, Christ Jesus, did, through the understanding and application of the rule of divine Love. Thus we shall comply with Paul's command, "Work out your own salvation. ... For it is God which worketh in you."

How wonderful it is to know that God, divine Principle, is ever at hand, and that He does help and protect us always when we are honest, sincere, and obedient. This helps us to realize that there is but one business to be maintained, and that, the Father's business. That is the only business which never defaults or causes worry over fluctuating markets; and business men of to-day are reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, because they know it is the key to success in all their righteous undertakings. They read and put it into practice every day, and find it the incentive to conduct their affairs in a manner that insures peace, durability, cooperation, confidence, loyalty, success, and a positive assurance of safety.

Until we can overcome the false concepts which sometimes creep into our thought, and which would argue that we are under limitation in some form or other, we cannot claim to be possessed of the perfect knowledge of the teachings of Christian Science. We shall learn that man, as God's idea, has all knowledge and understanding, since he reflects infinite intelligence, in proportion as we realize how the great Teacher, Jesus the Christ, whom Mrs. Eddy says "was the most scientific man that ever trod the globe" (Science and Health, p. 313), laid the foundation for perfect thinking and perfect living, and showed to all mankind the way to live the true Christian life. Just so far as we follow his teachings, learning to understand and demonstrate them, we are Christian Scientists.

No thoughtful student of Christian Science will attempt to build on a basis of error of any kind. He has come to recognize that "wood, hay, stubble"—false material beliefs—form a foundation upon which it is impossible to erect a permanent spiritual structure. We must be more alert in remembering that Christian Science not only reveals, but stands for, the clearest concept of spiritual law,—the law of Life,—pure, perfect, unchangeable, unerring, eternal in its nature, that spiritual law which expresses the operation of divine Principle in the government of the universe, including man. Living in obedience to this law we shall find all our affairs governed and controlled harmoniously.
