It is with the deepest feeling of gratitude to God and to Mrs. Eddy that I pen this testimony. During the last year I have had three attacks of pneumonia and two of asthma. It was during my third attack of pneumonia that I was brought to Christian Science. I had been in bed three days, had eaten nothing, and was very weak. My doctor said that when I recovered from this attack and was able to be moved, I must go out West to live. My husband was about to make preparations for the selling of his business, when a kind friend advised him to call in a Christian Science practitioner. He did so on the fourth day, and I shall never forget the ray of sunshine which entered my room when this dear woman came. From that very hour I gained strength. The pain left my lungs, and the following day I was able to eat. My husband bought a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and I commenced to study it, refusing at the same time to take either medicine or pills. In two weeks I was well and strong and have been quite well since. I had also for a long period suffered from ovarian and other internal troubles, all of which have entirely disappeared. For ten years I had worn eyeglasses constantly and I have now been able to cast them aside.
I have indeed many things to be grateful for. The Bible, which had always seemed a mystery to me, is now a new book, after having read Science and Health. Besides being healed of sickness I have been able to overcome temper and pride, which of course are stumblingblocks to any one. My six-year-old boy loves to attend the Christian Science Sunday school and even now demonstrates for himself when he is bruised or feeling cross, and has already overcome his fear of darkness. I used to think it impossible to love my neighbor as myself, but Christian Science teaches us that nothing is impossible to God. I am indeed thankful that I suffered, because it was the means by which I was brought nearer to God. It proves the truth of Mrs. Eddy's saying on page 66 of Science and Health: "Sorrow is salutary. Through great tribulation we enter the kingdom. Trials are proofs of God's care." How good it is for us to know that God's people can live anywhere, in any climate, and to understand the reason why. I hope my testimony will help some one who is groping in the darkness for a glimpse of the light, to remember the words of Christ Jesus, "I am the way, the truth, and the life."—(Mrs.)B. Millard, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
