With the greatest joy I offer this testimony to the goodness of God as revealed to me by Christian Science. When utterly wretched and without confidence in myself or hope in God, this glorious teaching proved to me that God is Love and there is none else besides Him. I was brought up in a denominational church, but early discarded its teachings as impractical. I had accepted the erroneous beliefs that the Bible promises were only to be realized in some future state of existence, in which I felt no interest, and that the good accomplished by Jesus, the prophets, and the apostles, was the result of the special gift of a partial God,—which closed for me this Book. The necessity of finding some satisfying reason for being, the nature of the creator, of the universe, and other important questions, turned me from one teaching to another in vain, until at length I said in my heart, "There is no God."

Not long after reaching this miserable condition I heard of Christian Science. I borrowed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to see what authority this teaching had for declaring disease unreal. At the time I had no thought of getting any help from it. I found the chapter on prayer the most reasonable and just conception of the subject I had ever heard, and the chapter entitled "Genesis" made a very strong appeal to me. This reading was profoundly interesting to me, but the remainder of the book seemed obscure and diffecult to understand; nevertheless I could not put it down. It at once began to lift me out of my depression and as soon as I felt certain that there was such a thing as absolute .truth I knew that to gain the understanding of it was sufficient reason for being.

My progress was very slow and errors of all kinds seemed rampant, but the memory of the emptiness of existence felt previously, impelled me to strive to understand Christian Science. My darkest hours were those when I was beset with the fear that this teaching was only another human theory and not the Science of being. Continued study and the effort to put into practice what I learned, slowly but surely proved this doubt to be absolutely without foundation. I have learned that God is just as present now and as able to heal disease as in time past. Troublesome ills of many years' standing have been completely eradicated and I have found it efficient in healing colds, influenza, and ptomaine poisoning, in a remarkably short time. Since first studying Christian Science I have used no material remedies in case of disease, and my health is now excellent. It has given me a practical religion and an understanding of the true nature of God, an intelligent appreciation of Christ Jesus as "the way" and the Savior of mankind.
