In the year 1901 I first became interested in Christian Science

In the year 1901 I first became interested in Christian Science. At that time I went from my home to a distant city to attend school. I boarded with an aunt, who was a student of this Science, and soon became interested enough to give up all medicine and rely upon Science treatments for all ailments. During the four years I remained there, my health, which had been poor, became perfect. However, busy with the school work as I was, I did not gain much understanding of Christian Science, and upon returning to my home, near which there were no Scientists at that time, I soon gave up the study entirely.

Almost immediately discordant conditions arose, followed by bodily ailments, and then came physicians with drugs and minor operations, all to no avail, as my health steadily became worse. Finally, following a severe illness, I became a semi-invalid, confined to my bed much of the time. After consulting several physicians and trying a change of climate for six months with little benefit, I went to a famous institution where I was examined by eminent physicians who pronounced the trouble a nervous one, for which there was no cure except a complete change in my manner of living. We sold our home and moved to California. For a short time I seemed better, then the old trouble seemed reappearing. At this juncture I decided to return to Christian Science and at once discarded all medicines, bought the book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, began to study the Lesson-Sermons, and attend the church services. I was freed, almost immediately, of an ailment for which I had taken medicine daily for three years. After a short time I had a struggle with the temptation to resort to the medicine again for relief, but when I relied upon God entirely, the healing came and has been permanent. With the help of a practitioner, I was later healed of severe abdominal cramps, nervous headache, threatened nervous breakdown, worry, grief, and other ills. My husband was also healed of a very troublesome itching skin rash, of a severe attack of malaria, and a bad cough which resulted from it.

For all these healings I am indeed grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, who presented this wonderful truth to this age, but far more thankful for the spiritual uplift and the change in my mental attitude from hostility toward many people, to love for even those I considered my worst enemies.—(Mrs.) Maude D. Wise, Kingsbury, Calif.
