Christian Science is based upon a demonstrable spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures, an interpretation that proves the Bible to be wholly consistent and logical, and enables the student to prove the law of God as given therein as Christ Jesus did and commanded his followers to do.

In the effort to explain "mental healing" and "spiritual healing" a critic has given the impression that Christian Science healing is accomplished through some occult process of the human mind, or "strong and continued suggestion." This is wholly wrong, and it should be understood definitely and positively that the power of human will does not enter into the practice or teachings of Christian Science. Suggestion, hypnotism, mesmerism, and all other occult processes of the human mind are dangerous and undesirable. Their influence is wholly bad, and places unsuspecting people at the mercy of selfish and evil manipulations and influences.

This is confirmed by the statement of Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, on page 445 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Christian Science silences human will, quiets fear with Truth and Love, and illustrates the unlabored motion of the divine energy in healing the sick. Self-seeking, envy, passion, pride, hatred, and revenge are cast out by the divine Mind which heals disease. The human will which maketh and worketh a lie, hiding the divine Principle of harmony, is destructive to health, and is the cause of disease rather than its cure."
