I wish to express my gratitude to Christian Science for...
I wish to express my gratitude to Christian Science for bringing to me the realization that God is good and all-powerful. For a number of years I had known of this teaching in a general way, but having always been well and happy I did not appreciate my need for it until about five years ago, when a very painful condition developed in my back. It grew rapidly worse and within two weeks I could not stand erect or walk without intense pain. The trouble was variously diagnosed as neuritis, lumbago, exhaustion, and a bad strain, and I spent four months experimenting with rest cure, braces, plaster cast, and change of climate, only to be told at the end of that time that a brace would have to be worn indefinitely. Altogether discouraged I turned to Christian Science as a last resort and was wonderfully healed; but about two months later I slipped back into the slough of despond and was again filled with fear and despair. This was once more overcome, and it is now three years since I have had even the slightest fear of a recurrence of the trouble.
Since then I have been helped, both physically and mentally, over some very rough places by the wonderful, certain knowledge of God's love and power, as taught in Christian Science; and I long most earnestly to show by my daily life that I have found a religion which can be practically and helpfully applied to every thought and action of our lives. The physical healings are unquestionably wonderful, but the sense of peace and rejoicing which follows the study of the Bible, as explained by our Leader, is far above everything else. The world owes Mrs. Eddy a boundless debt of gratitude for her unending devoition to the task she undertook; and many, many people, including myself, rejoice when they have an opportunity to express their gratitude, or to pass on to some one else the message of this wonderful religion, which makes the world seem like a different abiding place.
