Extracts from Letters

[Several letters have been received offering various opinions in regard to the authorship of the poem "Leave it with Him" published in the Sentinel of May 3. The following letter is therefore of great interest.—Editor.]

"In reading the Sentinel of May 3d I noticed the poem 'Leave it with Him,' and your note in regard to it, and am glad to say that I can give you the name of the author. The lines were written by my father, Rev. Edmund B. Miner, about thirty years ago, as near as I can recollect, and were published in some paper under his name. From time to time he added to and revised them. My mother, now past eighty years of age, is living, and I am sure she will be much gratified to know that you have honored his work by publishing it. Personally I feel it to be a great honor that our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, should have selected these lines as being worthy to be printed in the Sentinel.

"I am a member of Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, of this city."

(Signed) Mrs. Mary Miner Wheeler.

[To the War Relief Committee]

"I cannot thank you enough for your great goodness to me, a sufferer. I am deeply moved by it. May God bless this society of Christian hearts loving their neighbor. To quote the words of our Savior, 'Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.' With deepest gratitude...."

"Inclosed find receipt; many thanks for the trouble you took. I can say with the psalmist, 'Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.' All unexpected the help came."

"We wish to express our gratitude for the money. It made us very happy, as we were in great need of it. The greater the need, the nearer God is to us.... We would also like to express our gratitude for Christian Science and for all it has already done for us in our need. God bless you."

"I want to express my appreciation of what The Mother Church is doing to meet the need of Scientists overseas. When I was in need of help it was most lovingly and efficiently given, and I have reason to be most grateful for the Welfare rooms maintained both at Paris and at Brest."

"Many, many thanks for the money gift and the accompanying letter. God does indeed care for His own; I know He will never forsake us, and this gives me strength and courage for the future, for He is a Father to the widows and orphans."

"Many heartfelt thanks for the thirty francs. It made us very happy. This has proved to us again that God 'seeth in secret.' You cannot imagine how much we needed this.... Thank you for everything, and God bless you for it."
