I first heard of Christian Science about six years ago, at the time of the passing on of one very dear to me. I was at once attracted by the beautiful message of hope which this teaching presented, and realized what a great support even a little understanding of this glorious truth is. I was also able to realize that in God's kingdom there is no separation, and that Life is continuous and eternal. After that I made up my mind to go into the study of Christian Science more earnestly. Although belonging to an orthodox church and filling an important office there, I used to attend the Wednesday evening testimony meetings, and can never express all the gratitude I feel for the great outpouring of love from those who take part in them, and the source of strength these services were to me.

A few months after my wife passed on I was overtaken with all the symptoms of tubercular trouble, and eventually became so ill that I was unable to continue my daily work. Another serious ailment also presented itself, so that to material sense I was in a very bad condition. Throughout this experience I did not resort to any material remedy nor consult any medical practitioner, but at different times had Christian Science treatment. Finally, on going to the office of a practitioner one day and discovering that he was away and likely to be for a considerable time, the thought came clearly to me that I had to solve this problem myself and that perhaps I had been trusting too much to other people. I therefore decided to go to a quiet country place and there by God's help to make a demonstration of His power through earnest and prayerful study.

When I arrived at my destination my brother-in-law, with whom I stayed, was struck with my delicate state of health and remarked to his wife that he did not think I would get over the illness. He could not understand why I would not have medical treatment, not knowing anything about Christian Science. A week after my arrival I had an attack of prostration that left me in a very weakened condition. I, however, still clung to the thought of God as my Life, and worked mentally as we are taught in Christian Science, until gradually I saw the nothingness of this false claim to power. In two months I was completely restored to health. This healing took place over five years ago, and since that time I have never had a recurrence of the trouble. I have had many other demonstrations over illnesses. Some of these have been instantaneous healings, others have taken longer periods. The sense of limitation has been overcome through the realization that man, being God's idea, reflects infinite intelligence, which is manifested in a plentiful supply for all needs. I am doing work now which, but for Christian Science, I would never have dreamed of having the ability to perform.
