Near the close of the year 1910, I told my husband that I would like to read the book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and he immediately asked a gentleman in a bookstore to order one for us. Services were being held here, but we did not know it at the time, nor that the book could be procured through those in charge. It was perhaps four weeks before it came, and after reading the first page of the Preface I realized that I had found what I needed, but that it contained treasures of knowledge which I would need to work for if I were to make them my own. A week or two later, upon procuring a copy of The Christian Science Quarterly and attending the services, the orderly way to gain this understanding was unfolded to my thought.
My first physical healing was of an acute attack of throat trouble, which yielded in one treatment and has never returned. Following this, several attacks of pleurisy were overcome at different times through the loving help of practitioners, each attack growing less severe until they came no more. At that time, several years ago, there was a great fear of the cold winds, which seemed to cause much suffering, but in a short time no fear of these remained. Many other physical ills have been overcome,—a badly sprained foot, headache, toothache, weakness of the eyes, and a nervous condition which I do not know how to name. The last mentioned healing came slowly and taught me very much in the way of patience. I am now strong and well.
I am indeed grateful that our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, by her consecration to God was able to bring Christian Science to a troubled world. I am grateful for the privilege of being a member of The Mother Church, of the branch church here, and for the privilege of having had class instruction. I also wish to express my thanks for our periodicals. My only desire is so to live that I may express my gratitude in deeds instead of words.
