While I have many times expressed my gratitude in the...
While I have many times expressed my gratitude in the Wednesday evening meetings for my healing through the understanding of Christian Science, I now feel that I should send my testimony for publication in one of our periodicals, in the hope of helping some one who is in like need.
For over twenty years I had been almost constantly under the care of a doctor on account of epilepsy, stomach and liver trouble, catarrh, and other ailments. For several years I had been quite free from the epileptic conditions, but had never dared to go without my medicine. I was, however, taking less and less, for I knew if the time did not come when I could do without it, sooner or later it would fail to help me. In June, 1904, I found myself facing a situation that did not seem to have one ray of light, for the old conditions had returned in full force, and I was fully aware that it would take something beyond human means to help me. Two years before, while visiting cousins in a city near my home, they had told me of some of the benefits they had known others to have received through the study of Christian Science. What they said impressed me very much, and the thought stayed with me that if the old trouble ever came back, I would investigate Christian Science.
At this time, therefore, I went to one of these cousins, who had in the meantime taken up the study of Christian Science and so was prepared to explain it to me. I saw at once it was the truth of which I had been in need all my life. I soon began to attend the Christian Science church, where I received much help. The fear I had been under so long seemed so very great that I had treatment for over a year. Many healings were experienced, but still there were slight symptoms of epilepsy, although there had never been a severe attack after taking up the study of Christian Science. In June, 1906, I went to the dedication of The Mother Church, and while there I saw that I must work out my own freedom. After that the healing came much faster. I was freed from the stomach and liver trouble, and all the other ailments disappeared and have never returned.
