I have long had the intention of testifying to the help...
I have long had the intention of testifying to the help which my family and I have received through Christian Science. I was brought up in an orthodox church and was a member of it many years, although I cannot say that I agreed with everything therein taught. After coming to California I made the acquaintance of a lady who was a Christian Science practitioner, and as we met quite often, she lent me the book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I did not care much for it; yet often felt a desire to read it over again, although I could not understand it.
I had a son-in-law who suffered from lung trouble and who seemed to be very near the grave. Everything which had been tried in the effort to cure him had failed, so at last, in 1907, he resorted to Christian Science. He was healed, and is now healthy and strong, and a Christian Science practitioner. After his healing I began to read Science and Health with greater care and really to study it, and my efforts were not in vain. In a few months I left my old church, for I had found the "pearl of great price." My first help and healing through Christian Science was when I suffered from varicose veins. One night one of the veins burst, and being alone in the house I was at a loss to know what to do. My daughter lived near by, so I went to her barefoot. She at once called up a friend who is a Christian Science practitioner, and in a few minutes the bleeding stopped. This occurred eleven years ago, and I have never since had the slightest trouble in this respect.
Another time I suddenly fell seriously ill, and was told I had acute lung trouble and nervous fever; but in three treatments I was healed and able to attend to my housework. When I was seventeen years old the drum of one of my ears was ruptured and that ear had been discharging ever since. Through much reading in Science and Health, however, this condition has been healed. Many minor ailments from which I suffered from time to time have been overcome quickly through Christian Science.
