A correspondent who has written as though Christian Science...

The Christian Guardian

A correspondent who has written as though Christian Science could not cure a sick horse, particularly when the practitioner and the horse are two hundred and fifty miles apart, should remember that John Wesley cured his horse by prayer, and should consider whether more or less space between him and his horse would have made any difference. I have known more than one animal to be cured by Christian Science. Through the understanding of Christianity I was myself healed of a physical disorder or defect which had persisted for many years in spite of the efforts of several physicians, and this cure was wrought when the practitioner was three hundred and forty miles away. I am glad to say that I paid something for this service. It may be fairly presumed that if some one other than himself had been instrumental in the cure of Mr. Wesley's horse he would have considered the service valuable. "The labourer is worthy of his hire."

Seeing that the same correspondent has expressed a wish to talk with or to a particular Christian Scientist, I would say that this one or any other will be glad to talk with him about Christian Science whenever he wishes to do so as a sincere inquirer. It is the custom of Christian Scientists to wait for some sign of interest in the good news of which they have been assured before broaching it to anyone. Instead of debate or controversy, Christian Scientists prefer to rely upon the argument or reason furnished by proof or demonstration.
