It is seven years since I took up the study of Christian Science,...
It is seven years since I took up the study of Christian Science, and it is my duty and privilege to tell of the many blessings received since studying this truth. I have been healed of headache, toothache, colds, soreness, severe pain in my sides, and many other ailments. One experience I would like to mention in particular is the help experienced when my little girl was born. The birth certainly proved the powerlessness of all mortal laws. I had a Christian Science practitioner and nurse with me. A physician was called, and after making an examination said it was necessary that I be taken to a hospital and operated on. The practitioner, however, asked him to give her a little more time in which to do her work, and to this he very kindly consented. After waiting for some little while he made another examination and said there had been some progress. Later he said a wonderful progress had been made and that an operation was not necessary, as the baby would be born naturally. It was not a painless birth, yet there was such an assured feeling all the while. I was perfectly convinced that God would not desert me when seemingly I needed Him most, and I knew that nothing is impossible with God. The child is now over three years old and attends the Christian Science Sunday school. I shall never forget the loyalty of the practitioner throughout this experience, how firm she stood at her post, never wavering for a moment. Through her understanding I was wonderfully helped and healed. I was so uplifted and protected that not once did the thought of fear enter my consciousness.
When I first took up the study of Christian Science it was the physical healing that interested me most, as I felt at that time it was what I needed most; but after studying for some time I began to realize that the spiritual understanding of the Scriptures was the great need, and this I am getting as I study the Bible together with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It is for this understanding that I am most grateful, for I can say with the Scriptures: "Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold ... all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her."
My father was a minister of an orthodox church, my mother a member of the same denomination. They taught me to read the Bible, and I did so much of the time, as I was kept out of school a great deal owing to my physical condition. The healing work of Jesus and his followers always encouraged me with the thought that I could be healed. At that time I had never heard of Christian Science, but since studying this teaching, one by one the ailments are leaving me. I am very grateful for the understanding of Truth that I have gained through this study, for it is now sufficient to overcome a good many ailments for myself and others.
