Among the Churches

SYRACUSE, N. Y.—What the Comforts Forwarding committee of the Christian Scientists is doing for the refugees in France and Belgium is shown in a window disply at 416 South Salina Street. This display includes black sateen dresses, dresses made from men's shirts, chemises, women's flannel petticoats, boys' undershirts, outing flannel shirts for children, unbleached muslin shirts for boys, baby bonnets, infants' flannel hoods and capes, infants' kimonos and flannel dresses, for the refugees; and bath robes, trench caps, sweaters, socks, patch quilts, ambulance pillows, handkerchiefs, napkins, towels, and other serviceable articles for the men in service. The local committee is one of over nine hundred committees organized among the Christian Scientists in the United States which, collectively, furnished 90, 135 garments from December 1, 1917, to September 1, 1918. The Syracuse committee contributed 1608 articles from April 1 to November 1.—Syracuse Journal.

MOBILE, ALA.—New quarters have been obtained by First Church of Christ, Scientist, in the Mobile Relief Hall, Conti and St. Emmanuel Streets. The first Sunday services were held November 3. The new home of the church will accommodate over five hundred persons. Reading rooms have been secured in the City Bank Building down town. The church contemplates the erection of a church building but work on it will not be started until later.

JACKSONVILLE, ILL.—First Church of Christ, Scientist, is now open each afternoon from half past two to half past four o'clock to those who wish to inspect the improvements made in remodeling the building, which was formerly the old Hayden residence at the corner of West State and Kosciusko Streets. The church will not be dedicated until the last cent has been paid on its debt.—Jacksonville Courier.
