After losing two children in one year under materia medica,...
After losing two children in one year under materia medica, I decided to try Christian Science to see if it contained the comfort for the assuaging of grief that an orthodox religion lacked; and as I had two children left, to prevent, if possible, their being taken from me. Some nine years have elapsed since that time, and Christian Science has never failed to heal, comfort, and supply all needs when it has been properly applied. When the great truth dawned on my consciousness that "God is the only Life," that "Life is continuous and harmonious," and that "Life is the origin and ultimate of man" (Science and Health, pp. 472, 157, 487), the bitterness of grief and separation disappeared and was replaced by peace and satisfaction. Most of us have been taught that God sends sickness and death because He is angry with us and we need punishment; and it is a blessed relief to know that this is not true, that, as Mrs. Eddy says on page 412 of Science and Health, "God lovingly governs all, never punishing aught but sin."
Within a few months of the passing on of the elder child, a younger girl manifested the same so-called disease, inflammatory rheumatism, and my faith in Christian Science was tested. Treatment was asked for, and in five days all trace of the illness was gone, so that the child was up and around. Since then there has been no recurrence of this trouble. During these years of study and growth, many discordant conditions have been overcome in our family and harmony has been restored. Accidents have been averted by the quick denial of their reality and the affirmation and realization of the power of Truth. It is a great privilege to have the children in the Christian Science Sunday school, where from the beginning they receive the right teaching concerning God and man.
I am daily reminded to be grateful for Christian Science, for it is surely a practical, logical religion, which all may demonstrate.—(Mrs.) Mable G. Jameson, Sioux City, Iowa.
