When I first became interested in Christian Science I was...
When I first became interested in Christian Science I was greatly in need of reformation, both mentally and physically, and I am indeed thankful to state that this reforming process has taken place in the degree that I have gained a clearer understanding of the truth as revealed by Christian Science. I have been healed of stomach trouble, from which I suffered for about ten years and which was believed to be hereditary, and also of what is termed "tobacco heart." The smoking habit was overcome by Christian Science after I had tried many times to overcome it by will-power, but without success.
Prior to taking up the study of Christian Science I was fettered by many erroneous beliefs, and when I recall how these have gradually but surely been corrected by the changing of my mode of thinking from a material basis to the spiritual, I find it difficult to put into words my deep sense of gratitude for what the Founder of Christian Science has done for me in giving to the world a demonstrable, practical religion. On page 293 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Christian Science brings to light Truth and its supremacy, universal harmony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil." During the past eight years I have been learning the truth of the foregoing statement, and although there have been trials not a few, I can now give thanks for them, since they have led me to rise above the belief in their reality to an understanding of their nothingness.
For the many benefits that have come to me through Christian Science I am most grateful, and my desire is to show my appreciation by living in accord with its teachings.
