Some years ago I met with an injury to my back, and the pain increased so much that within a few hours it was impossible to lift my foot even a few inches without great suffering. Finding my own understanding of Christian Science unequal to the need, I called upon a practitioner and told her what had happened. She most lovingly gave me treatment at once, and in about half an hour all pain had gone. I was free and could have run down the street if necessary. A similar case known to me was years in the same condition and was not healed.
One morning, two years after this experience, I caught my shoe in the stair carpet and fell five steps, injuring both ankles. The intense pain at first caused great fear, but I was just as quickly enabled to realize the truth in the lines on page 468 of Science and Health: "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." My daughter ran to my assistance and helped me up the stairs. I studied Christian Science all day, resting my feet, and next day walked about the room a little.
The following day it was my duty to be at a charity house by noon, so I got to work to destroy fear, then walked downstairs. Keeping well in thought that "all is infinite Mind," I reached the street without any difficulty, and as there was no conveyance in sight, I just walked on, my ankles growing stronger all the time. The business with the institution done, the return journey was started in the same way with the same results. The distance was about two and a half miles, but never a twings of pain was felt, nor have I since been reminded of the accident. That was nine years ago. Before knowing anything of Christian Science I sprained one ankle and was laid up for three weeks, and could only limp about with the help of a stick.
