It is time for me to express my gratitude for what Christian Science...
It is time for me to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me, as I owe to it my life and all that is worth living for. I bitterly opposed this teaching when it was brought to my notice by my daughter, who so lovingly tried to have me read Science and Health. I could see nothing in it that appealed to me and thought my old church good enough; yet I knew nothing about God and man's relation to Him. The Bible, which I now love dearly, was a closed book to me. God seemed far off and not to care for me, for my prayers were apparently never answered. In the Christian Science church I have found love and harmony, together with the knowledge that God is not far away but ever present. I had to pass through deep waters before I could know the goodness which God had prepared for me in I could the world, through Mrs. Eddy, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and her other writings.
In an accident which nearly cost me my life, my right hip fractured and there were internal injuries. I suffered untold agony. Then I asked for Christian Science treatment ; and although the physicians declared I would never walk again, except perhaps with the aid of crutches, and then not for a year on account of my age, which was over in less than two months I walked over a mile and up a long flight of stairs to our church. For twenty years I had been afflicted with headaches, which would confine me to bed for a week, also with neuralgia, and every winter I would except to have three or more attacks of pleurisy. I suffered a great deal and doctors could not cure me. These ailments, together with many others too numerous to mention, are now things of the past, thanks to Christian Science treatment. The study of the text-book will help others as it has helped me.
One Sunday after coming from church I sat down to study the next Lesson-Sermon and went through it all. Then I reached up to take off my glasses, and behold, they were not there. I had not done without them for a great many years, but they have been used since. Although in my eighty-third year, I am well and happy.
