The Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

Red Bluff (Cal.) News

The Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, is not regarded as a substitute for the Bible, but is, as its name indicates, a key to it. Most religious sects have commentaries on the Bible, and the Christian Scientists have theirs in Science and Health. That this book illumines the Scriptures is testified to by thousands who since studying Science and Health have learned to understand and love the Bible, which had previously been to them a sealed book. A study of Science and Health in connection with the Bible has healed many thousands of the drug and liquor habits, and of diseases which had been pronounced incurable by reputable physicians.

Any one who has ever read Science and Health knows that Christian Science acknowledges the divinity of Christ. The second tenet, as given on page 497 of this book, is as follows: "We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness." Language could not be more explicit, and all who will may learn what Christian Science teaches, for Science and Health is to be found in most of our free public libraries.

Mrs. Eddy's teaching in regard to sin is equally clear, She states: "The way to escape the misery of sin is to cease sinning. There is no other way;" and again: "We acknowledge God's forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts" (Science and Health, pp. 327, 497).
