I wish to express my gratitude for what the understanding...
I wish to express my gratitude for what the understanding of Christian Science has done for me. About fourteen years ago a friend sent me a copy of the Sentinel, and on reading the testimonies I thought it was almost too good to be true. I had been ill from stomach trouble and rheumatism, and had been treated by five different doctors, but none could cure me. For fifteen years I had what is commonly known as milk-leg and was obliged to wear a rubber stocking all the time in order to keep about. As I read those testimonies I thought that if Christian Science teaches how to know this God who is the healer of our diseases, I must know more of it. I did not think I could be cured, but wanted to know of God, though I was prejudiced against Mrs. Eddy through adverse things I had read.
I wanted to read the book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," though I had no thought of buying it, nor did I know where I might borrow a copy; but one day a dear friend mailed me one for my very own. After reading the first two chapters I knew it was what I had been wanting for many years, and it seemed to me as if I could not read fast enough. The stomach trouble just disappeared, never to return, and before I had finished reading the book I discarded the rubber stocking. I have never had to wear it again or found any inconvenience in doing without it all these years. The leg troubled me again last fall, but the difficulty was soon overcome, and I am now free from it. By the time I had studied the book three months the rheumatism was entirely gone, and it has not returned.
My little girl of eight had suffered from organic heart trouble since birth, according to the physicians, and she got no help from the doctors; but she had treatment by a faithful practitioner for two weeks and has been well ever since. She is a picture of health and happiness. Many other demonstrations in smaller things have been made and I have been able to do the work for myself. Neuralgia, throat trouble, and last but not least, a sense of limited supply, have all been overcome.
