The Lectures

Jacob S. Shield, who lectured on Christian Science to a large and attentive audience in the Globe Theater, was introduced by the first reader, Charles L. Troutwine, who said:—

We are living in an age of intelligent truth-seeking, when more thought is given to and greater efforts are expended in the development of human character, when love for humanity is stronger, when more people are seeking to come nearer to nature and to nature's God than ever. So we are here, many of us, to hear and to learn if there is a better way of living than the one to which we have been accustomed, to learn if we may come nearer to nature and to God. We want to know what Christian Science really is, what it means for us and for the human race.—Correspondence.
