About a year and a half ago I was, together with my six months' old son, spending the day with my mother. In the afternoon, while carrying a kettle of water with the baby in my other arm, I stepped on my dress and fell, spilling the boiling water on the baby and myself. In spite of his screams I was able to repeat, "Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious," the first line of Mrs. Eddy's spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer (Science and Health, p. 16), and in about fifteen minutes he was asleep, while the pain in my arm and hand, both of which had been badly scalded, had entirely subsided. This fact proved to me that "whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divinepower" (Science and Health, p. 192), for while treating the baby with no thought of self, I too was healed. After several hours he awoke and began to play as usual, and from that time on there was nothing to indicate that the burns caused him any suffering. There are no scars on either of us.
The same evening I treated my mother for a very severe headache, realizing that if Truth would heal burns, a headache could be overcome as well, and after a few moments she declared that her head no longer ached. In my own family I have seen goiter, rheumatism, rupture, chronic bowel trouble, colds, as well as other ailments, overcome through the power of Truth. Not only have these healings been permanent, but they have served to uplift those who witnessed them to the knowledge of the truth which frees from bondage, as well as to strengthen those who were healed.
My earnest and constant desire is to live Christian Science so that others may see its wonderful power and be led to the kingdom. It is a daily help in all my duties and pleasures.
