The beauty and peace that come into one's life from the study of Christian Science can never be told in words; it must be lived, and reflected in daily living. The healing that has come to me through the loving work of a Christian Science practitioner and the careful study of our literature, has been wonderful to my friends and beautiful to my family, who understand that it is divine Love that heals and Truth that sets free.

For eighteen years the struggle for health had been severe. Three major and four minor operations were performed, but they gave only temporary relief. After the last one, which was a very serious one (laparotomy), things seemed worse. Then osteopathy was tried and relief experienced, but other troubles arose, in the form of neuritis and a useless arm. Continued treatments brought improvement, but all of a sudden lockjaw set in, and the doctor said this was also caused by neuritis. According to man-made law, paralysis of the spine was becoming manifest, and as I had had a stroke at the beginning of my illness, it seemed that this condition was again asserting itself. After suffering terrific pain and awful hunger for three weeks, in sheer despair I turned to Christian Science. Strange as it may seem, I knew nothing of this Science, except as something it was better to let alone, and as my father was a minister I was well filled with creed and dogma.

The first treatment brought relief, and better still, the desire for the truth. As I had never been satisfied in the old thought, but was always looking for the peace of mind which I had never found, it was a delight to feel the real desire for church that came to me on the Sunday morning following the first treatment. Physical relief had been given to me to the extent of no pain and relaxed muscles, so that I could hold my head erect and eat what I wanted. The good work went on, and as I studied, the desire for health was lost sight of in the greater desire for and satisfaction in finding the truth. In Science I found all I had been unable to find elsewhere,—the why of life, the where of heaven. Having learned that the true basis for building is divine Principle, the eternal good, the work could go on, and I rejoice to say that by careful study it is going on.
