I want to express my gratitude for the revelation of Truth...

I want to express my gratitude for the revelation of Truth that came to me while visiting in Virginia in the spring and early summer of 1914. For five weeks we had extremely hot weather, and as I was not accustomed to the climate, the prolonged and excessive heat was affecting me, under the government of fear. A day came when it seemed to me that I must give up my otherwise delightful visit and tell the people whom I was visiting that I must leave them lest I be ill on their hands. I tried, however, during an exhausting day to declare the truth that the one supreme Mind was the only power, and that only good was coming to me. When evening came I went to my room feeling that if I turned to some of the Christian Science literature lying on the table I should find my sustaining help. I took up a pamphlet, and on opening it my eye fell on this verse from Isaiah: "Neither shall the heat nor sun smite them." From that moment there was no more fear, but a comforting sense of God's protecting power and ever-presence. All thought that I could not remain to finish my visit was at an end. Many times were the helpful lines repeated when hot days followed, and always with a sense of peace. The uplift in thought that is mine through this revelation of Truth that in God's loving care we are protected, and that divine Love meets every human need, I have not words adequately to express.

During my visit I was healed in three days of an acute attack of rheumatism that rendered my right arm helpless, so that I required assistance in dressing. My food had to be prepared for me, and I was obliged to remain up through the night, the pain being so severe that I could not lie down. This healing through Christian Science was a revelation to the family where I was visiting, for they were not Christian Scientists and could not understand its healing power. I am most grateful for all that Christian Science has done for me.
