Among the Churches

Current Notes

Halifax, England. —The marked growth of Christian Science in Halifax is portrayed in the fact that First Church of Christ, Scientist, has found it necessary to remove into more commodious premises, and the address is now Savile Lodge, Harrison road.

Christian Science was first brought into Halifax as the result of the healing of a lady suffering from spinal and brain trouble. This lady was recommended to try Christian Science by her medical practitioner as a last resort, all other means having failed. After she was healed, the interest of friends was aroused, and these friends began to meet at a neighbor's house at Glenfield, Burnley road. A small room was allotted to their use, and services were conducted there for some time. A move was then made into Halifax, where a small room was taken at the corner of Cow Green and Central street. These premises, however, were soon outgrown, and a larger room was taken a few yards away—at 6 Central street. Here seating accommodation was provided for some one hundred and fifty.

After a stay of six years on these premises the accommodations have again been outgrown, and at last the church is established at Savile Lodge, which is so situated as to enable subsequent extensions. Interior alterations have been made so that room has been found for approximately two hundred and fifty persons.—Halifax Guardian.
