Your genial contributor, who in a recent issue wrote under the heading "Teuton Science," had no desire, I am sure, to do any injustice to Christian Science; but his reference to it, given on the alleged authority of another genial writer, may convey a wrong impression. If Christian Science was anything akin to the curious and absurd notions that some people seem to have about it, then it would justifiably lend itself to ridicule ; but seeing that its sole mission is to benefit humanity physically, morally, and spiritually, it is of immense importance that it should be understood aright. When it is so understood, then it is at once seen that such statements as that of your contributor about the result of "thinking hard," come under the category of harmless witticism. It is not to think hard that the world needs, but to think rightly, and it is in this respect that Christian Science has revived, emphasized, and is everywhere proclaiming by its beneficent results the teachings of Christ Jesus. It has no relation, as you suggest, to what is called New Thought; but it is the old thought of the Bible, especially of the New Testament, applied in its pristine purity, and making its compassionate appeal to all who are in any kind of trouble.
