Since taking up the study of Christian Science a few years...
Since taking up the study of Christian Science a few years ago, I have had enough proof of its healing power to convince me that it is the truth. I did not come to it for physical healing, but was gently led by divine Love. I had attended various Sunday schools when I was a young girl, seeking for something I could not find and never agreeing with their conception of a God who punished. I had implicit faith in knowing God to be Love, but where the sin and disease came from I knew not.
Two years prior to taking up the study of Christian Science, I ceased to attend any church or Sunday school. In the mean time I had heard of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and also noticed that its adherents expressed more love than the members of others religious denominations; therefore one Sunday morning in January I attended a Christian Science service with a relative. It happened to be communion Sunday, and I was so impressed with the simplicity of the service that I immediately resolved to take up the study. I was still young enough to attend Sunday school, and for this privilege I am truly grateful.
My demonstrations of healing have been few, as the understanding of God and man's relation to Him has kept me well; but one experience, which occurred in May, 1913, I would like to mention, as it gave me an opportunity to prove God's allness. Since early childhood I have had considerable trouble with my ears, the pain sometimes being almost unbearable, and a number of years ago the mastoid bone of the right ear was seriously affected, so that the drum had to be lanced. One night the severe pain in my ear awakened me after two hours of sleep, but I began at once to realize the omnipresence of God by repeating the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation, as given on page 16 of Science and Health. In one hour the demonstration was made and the cold was broken, whereas in similar cases, before I turned to Christian Science, the pain would last three hours and sometimes all night. I was unable to sleep the remainder of the night, however, as the ear had not cleared up, though all pain had vanished. The following day happened to be the heaviest day of the years in the office where I was employed, and I rejoice to say I was able to do my share of the work perfectly. I had lost my rest the night before, but it was proven to me that my strength is in divine Mind, and my share of the work that day was accomplished. I left the office at half past seven and immediately attended a business meeting at the church. Later, I returned home without a thought of being tried or hungry, and it is needless to say I was grateful.
