It seems impossible to find words to express my thankfulness...
It seems impossible to find words to express my thankfulness to God, and my gratitude to Christian Science for the blessings I have received. For two years I suffered so much from asthma that I lived out on a screened porch in order to breathe. In all I had six physicians. One thought my nerves were the cause of my condition, and he worked on them until paralysis set in on one side of my body, weakening my eyes so that I could see only with strong glasses. The next physician thought my nose caused the trouble, so I was taken to a specialist, and for two hours sat in the operating-chair while he removed bones from my nose and head. One month later I returned and had similar operation performed on the other side. Still the asthma grew worse. During this time, an opiate was injected into my body and I was also obliged to take it internally; but soon even that failed to put me to sleep. Moreover, my memory began to fail from the use of the drug, and I would hear voices calling me until I thought I was going insane. We then consulted a physician who had a new asthma cure, but a trial of it weakened me to such extent that we had to give it up, and the physician said that nothing more could be done for me.
The next day my mother told me about a lady who had been cured by Christian Science, and that afternoon this lady sent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I read it all the afternoon and evening, and at night I went to bed and slept peacefully for the first time in two years. The next morning I called in a practitioner, and from that time I have never been troubled with asthma. My memory is clear, and my eyesight has improved so that I can thread a needle without glasses. I have also gained greatly in weight, and have been perfectly well ever since my healing. All our sorrow and darkness have turned to gladness and sunshine.—Lillie Beck, Milwaukee, Wis.
