I wish to tell what Christian Science has done for me
I wish to tell what Christian Science has done for me. Up to five years ago I had always been a great sufferer from skin disease; in fact, when I was a boy I was continually having medical treatment for my blood, but every year I grew worse. The last two doctors who treated me said they could not do much for me, that I had inherited the disease and would probably be troubled with it for the rest of my life. I could not sleep, my nerves were in bad condition, and I was disgusted with this world and wanted to get out of it.
About this time I heard of Christian Science through the healing of a friend who had typhoid fever. He was so ill that it was thought he could not recover, but he returned to his business perfectly well in four weeks. This interested me very much, and I decided to try the same "remedy." I went to see the practitioner, and in that first treatment was healed of the worst of all diseases,—fear. That night I slept better than I had for years, and that without medicine or the usual material applications. In four treatments my body was free from the burning sensation and my skin clearer than for years. I was interested, and continued my visits to the practitioner, as I wanted to understand how this had been accomplished. During this time my eyes were healed, although I had worn glasses for over six years, and I was cured of smoking after being a heavy smoker for thirty years. Other troubles disappeared also. For all this I was indeed grateful, but much more so for the spiritual healing which I received.
I had not been inside of a church for over thirty years. I believed in a God, but could not understand why He should make His children suffer and be sick; but since I have found God, and know where He is and what He is, and obey His laws, I have found great happiness, abiding peace, and perfect health. I had never read the Bible, because I thought I could not understand it, but now I take great pleasure in studying our Lesson-Sermons and attending our services. I am very grateful to our dear Leader that I have found God, also to those who have made this beautiful truth plain to me; and I know I can best express this gratitude by living up to the teachings of Christian Science.
