I was attracted to Christian Science by its theology, its spiritual and therefore harmonious interpretation of the Scriptures. When I first heard of this new-old truth I was, and had been for eight years, a member of a religious community in one of the western states. After many years of self-sacrifice and toil, with hope deferred and ideals not realized, I felt a longing for deliverance from bondage. About this time the Christian Science Sentinel began coming to one of the members. These copies were passed around, and they awakened an interest that brought into circulation a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which had been received by one of the members some years before as a gift, but had been kept in seclusion until brought forth by this new awakening. The text-book was now circulated, and as a result of the work of these two faithful witnesses this religious association was peaceably dissolved, as quietly as light follows darkness or the day the night, the majority of the members becoming interested in Christian Science.

Two weeks after I began to read the Christian Science literature, I injured my ankle. I tried to meet this problem with the little understanding I had gained of metaphysical healing, but was unable to bear my weight on the ankle the following morning. I persevered, however, and in thirty-six hours after the accident the ankle "was restored whole as the other," without any material appliances or treatment. This was my first practical proof of physical healing as taught in Christian Science, and it was a sweet and satisfying experience of the nearness and potency of divine Truth and Love in meeting human needs.

Since that time I have passed through a deep sorrow, the deepest that can come to the human heart, but I found the truth to be indeed "a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Out of sorrow's depths I drank of a deeper joy than I had hitherto known. The Scriptural promise was fulfilled, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." In this experience I gained some apprehension of the nothingness of the occasions of human woe. Many and varied are the experiences in which the truth has been a present help. I am thankful for the privilege of being a member of The Mother Church, and also a subscriber to the church periodicals, including the Monitor.
