Among the Churches

COLUMBUS, OHIO.—With the opening, Sunday morning [Jan. 24] at eleven o'clock, of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, at Park street and West First avenue, Columbus will have two permanent churches for the accommodation of members of the Christian Science church. The seating capacity of the church is more than six hundred, while that of the Sunday school room will be three hundred.

Second Church of Christ, Scientist, was organized about three years ago with a membership of forty-one. The first service was held Feb. 18, 1912, at the U. C. T. Hall, Park and Russell streets. The congregation outgrew this hall very shortly, however, and beginning Oct. 1, 1914, services were thereafter held at a hall at North High and Warren streets. Ground was broken for the church on March 27, 1914. The building covers an area of 66 by 100 feet. The auditorium is 48 by 60 feet, and the Sunday school room the same size.—Columbus Dispatch.

SPOKANE, WASH.—On Wednesday evening, Jan. 6, at First Church of Christ, Scientist, I heard testimony given of the cure through Christian Science of cancer, of eczema which covered a man's body, of a broken finger, of hernia of the eye, of drunkenness, and of a child's stammering. These testimonies were given by responsible persons from personal experience, and were received with respect by an audience which filled the church. If these cases had been attributed to materia medica and presented in a paper before some medical association, they would have aroused world-wide comment. As it was, they were merely a part of the regular Wednesday evening meeting, one of a thousand and more meetings that are being held every week throughout the country, where similar testimonies are being given.
