It is with a heart full of gratitude, and with the hope that my testimony may benefit some one who is seeking the truth, that I tell what Christian Science has done for me. Seven years ago I was afflicted with hip disease, which the family physician said was caused by a fall that I had received five years before that time. After wearing a brace and using crutches for thirteen months the trouble disappeared, but a year and a half later it came back. Then I was in bed with weights for six months, and it again disappeared, only to reappear in fifteen months, when the physician told me I would have to go to a hospital for an operation; and I did so. I was there a month, in which time six specialists examined me, and I was finally told that an operation would do me no good. After I left the hospital one of the specialists said that if I would take the right kind of medicine, strong enough and often enough, I would be well in a short time; but I received practically no help during a month's treatment. The specialist told me I had what is known to materia medica as an incurable tubercular hip, that I would be a cripple all my life, and advised me to go to some institution for incurables.
At this point a friend spoke of Christian Science to me. I felt that it would be of no use to try it, but as all material remedies had failed, I consented to do so. I therefore secured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and asked for help from a practitioner. After eleven treatments I was perfectly healed, and the trouble has not appeared in any form since my healing in June, 1911. I was an excessive user of cigarettes and alcoholic liquors, and although to mortal sense I tried very hard to give them up, these habits were not entirely overcome until about a year and a half after taking up Christian Science. It has been proven to me that when this teaching is earnestly and properly applied, it meets human need in any form.
I am very grateful for the Christian Science literature, as it is invaluable, and it has been a daily help to me. I also wish to express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for bringing Christian Science so clearly before us.
