The statement by a recent contributor to the News-Times, that Christian Science is neither Christian nor scientific, probably voices the critic's opinion, althought it is manifestly an opinion based on a very limited investigation and evidences that he has not tested Christian Science teaching for himself. The fact is, Christian Science is Christian because it is based on the words and works of Christ Jesus. It declares him to be the Wayshower, and has no teaching or practice that was not commanded or authorized by the great Teacher as recorded in the New Testament. Christian Science is scientific because it so sets forth the manner in which Christ Jesus performed his works that any sincere seeker may understand and prove it for himself. Witness the fruits of Christian Science in the healing of every disease known to mankind! Right in and about South Bend cases of sin and sickness not only have been healed, but are being healed day after day, and these healings are known to large numbers of people.

In an attempt to prove that Christian Science denies Bible teaching, our brother resorted to the ridiculous practice—sometimes used by those who would disprove at any cost—of comparing passages of Scripture with disconnected sentences, and even parts of sentences, from the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Most of these comparisons are too absurd for further notice, but it will probably be well to refer briefly to those dealing with the Christian Science teaching of the unreality of sin, in order that your readers may not be left incorrectly informed. Christian Science teaches that sin is unreal because God did not create it and it is therefore not eternal. Only that which God created is eternal and real. Sin causes sickness, misery, and death, and these effects of sin will disappear in proportion as its true nature is understood and thereby destroyed. There have been thousands of testimonies that Christian Science destroys the love of sin and stimulates a desire to be more godlike. It makes for better and healthier men and women, better and healthier children, and thus contributes effectively to a larger and nobler citizenship among all classes of people.
