From Our Exchanges

[Prof. Charles R. Henderson in The Universalist Leader]

Jesus was the only practical statesman, world ruler. He would not condescend to be a Herod, a Pilate, or a Cæsar; he would rule by truth, goodness, justice; he would make the world new within. He was right. ... Above all little nationalism arises the vision of Jesus, the kingdom of God. That glorifies the work of the Christian minister and of the Christian church, now temporarily eclipsed by materialism, insolent commercialism, and arrogant militarism! Christian faith and belief have never had their day; their supreme day is yet to come, and has already dawned. Those who climb to the mountain tops have caught the first glorious rays; the dark valleys will soon rejoice in the radiance. [The Watchman-Examiner]

Every holiday or holy day has its own peculiar influence, its atmosphere, its spirit. The spirit of Christmas is the spirit of youth. Christianity gave new youth and new heart to humanity. To a world grown gray and old and weary it brought a message tingling with vitality, thrilling in its freshness and purity, full of the promise and potency of endless growth. Christianity forever renews its youth, and it begins with the story of a child and its mother.
