The Healer
Throughout the ages there has lived and will live but one healer. Earth needs no other, for this healer is the Christ, Truth. In order to understand this subject more fully, we may consider it from the standpoint of the Christ-nature, the Christ-power, the Christ-effect. The first gives us a wide range of vision. The Master said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." Again he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." We thus readily apprehend that the truth was from the beginning, born of God, hence a partaker of the God-nature, perfect, unchanging, impartial, impersonal, immutable, omnipotent. There has been no time when truth has been absent from creation and no moment when it has been inactive, for it was not withheld from the world until Jesus' advent, neither was it withdrawn at his ascension. If thought has rested upon the man Jesus as the divine healer, as one whom it was sacrilege to try to imitate, whose power was confined to himself alone, a grievous mistake has been made.
Jesus said, "I can of mine own self do nothing." Jesus was a perfect witness to Christ, Truth but he claimed no monopoly of Truth's power. If he did not claim this for himself, why should we claim it for him?
Beginning with Genesis, the Bible tells of the healing Christ, at work through all the ages down to Jesus' time, and we have the Master's promise that this truth shall abide with us forever. Poverty, sorrow, sickness, sin, and death were healed by the Christ in the centuries before Jesus' time, and have been since, and this healing will continue so long as the need of healing remains. Let us then strive to see the Christ-idea aright, above all mere belief as to person, time, creed, and country, the one perfect physician for all humanity throughout the years.
