I feel it is my duty as well as privilege to tell something of what Christian Science has done for me. Prior to the winter of 1908, I had been ill for a number of years. I had been to different hospitals at various times, and had undergone five surgical operations. At the last operation, three of the pelvic organs were removed. I came home from the hospital hoping to experience relief from suffering, but was disappointed in this. I had stomach trouble, pains in head and spine, and was not able to attend to my household duties, as I suffered from nervous shock and was mentally very much depressed.
At this time a good neighbor called, and told me of her healing in Christian Science. At first it seemed as if I did not care to hear about it, that as I had been associated with materia medica in the capacity of professional nurse, I could not understand Christian Science; but as I thought over what the dear friend had said to me of her healing and noted the sincerity of her manner, I decided I would try Christian Science for physical healing. I called for the help of a practitioner, and immediately secured a copy of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and began to read it. With one week's treatment I was free from all suffering. Whereas I had not been able to sit at the table with my family to partake of food, I could eat anything I desired. Refreshing sleep came to me, and anxiety and worry were gone; in their place was a sense of peace which I had never thought possible to experience. Since that time we have had a number of healings in our family; acute lung trouble, colds, measles, whooping-cough, and other ailments, have all been met and overcome in Christian Science.
I am grateful for the physical healing, but for the better understanding of God as divine Love, and for the surety that Christian Science is the truth, words cannot express my thankfulness. I wish also to express my appreciation of the good that is coming to me from our literature, the Journal, Sentinel, and Monitor, and my gratitude to the dear friends who were instrumental in helping me to the better understanding of God.—Sadie A. Malzen, Lima, Ohio.
