Many times the testimonies in our periodicals have been the means of renewing my courage and rousing me to greater spiritual activity, and I feel I must add my note to the great song of thanksgiving which is being poured forth by thousands today.
Eight years ago I was taken very ill with rheumatic fever and blood-poisoning. I suffered everything for about four months, when I recovered sufficiently to get on my feet again. Later, complications set in and I was sent to the hospital, operated on, and then sent home again, with the verdict that I had tubercular trouble. The doctor who was then attending me, advised the placing of my couch out of doors (it was then the middle of winter) for a portion of each day. He also had a special stretcher made for me, to which my limbs were to be fastened. The family doctor who had attended me previously, did not agree with the hospital doctor's diagnosis, but could recommend no way of healing the condition. I was quite helpless, in constant pain, weakened by a wholly unnecessary operation, and very thin and worn.
It was at this point that I asked for and received Christian Science treatment. In a few weeks the trouble all came away in the most natural manner, and what doctors, drugs, and operation had failed to do, was accomplished by divine Mind. It seemed like a miracle that I was able to get up out of bed, walk again without pain, and eat and sleep naturally. The suffering I had undergone, and this healing in Christian Science, awakened me to the fact that there was something more in the world than my philosophy had dreamed of; nevertheless, I did not begin the earnest study of this Science until I found that I needed it very much to lead me out of other false conditions. Then, through the study of Science and Health, together with the Bible, other healings were wrought in my family, and I came to recognize that a wonderful change had come into my life.
