Christian Science was presented to me at a time when I...
Christian Science was presented to me at a time when I seemed to need it most. I had never been strong as a child, and my studies at school were often interrupted because of ill health. I was obliged to leave boarding-school twice on the advice of a physician, and later had to give up a kindergarten course because of the state of my health. In the spring of 1909 I lost hope of receiving help in materia medica, as I had been under the treatment of two doctors, one of whom, a specialist, had examined me and said that an operation on my throat was necessary, but he would not advise it until my general condition had improved. There was the fear that one lung was weak, my heart and blood were in bad condition, and I had also suffered from stomach trouble, which was so serious that none of the medicine I took had given me any relief. I had not eaten solid food for a month, and the specialist insisted upon a change of climate. I was preparing for a trip, but the stomach disorder became so distressing that I felt I could not stand it any longer.
At this time a friend advised me to try Christian Science, and as I was willing to do anything to get relief, I consented to take treatment, although I did not know anything about it except that this friend had been benefited. I called on a practitioner, and after having a treatment, returned to the house just about dinner time and ate the first hearty meal I had been able to enjoy in a month, and to my surprise without the usual after effects. In the first treatment I was healed of nearly all my ills, and in less than a month they all yielded to the power of Truth, with the exception of my eyes; but in about three months, after I had begun to study and help myself a little, I was able to lay aside glasses that I had worn for over seven years, and I have not needed them since. I am glad to state that my healing has been permanent.
Recently I completed a special course in music, under difficulties that would have seemed insurmountable had it not been for the sustaining help of Christian Science. I have mentioned only a few of the many benefits received from this teaching, as I have had several instantaneous demonstrations and many other blessings through the application of the truth. It is no wonder we are grateful to Mrs. Eddy for bringing to us this demonstrable knowledge of God.
