At the age of twelve I met with an accident and sustained an injury of the right thigh. A week later stitches were taken, but it was a long time before the wound healed, and even then it would break open at times, causing intense suffering. About a year and a half ago the condition grew so serious that medical attendance became necessary. Another incision was made, but it proved unavailing. My acquaintances and myself believed that I would have the wound for the rest of my life. God's help, however, was not far off.
One day a dear lady called my attention to the healing performed through Christian Science. She gave me a few testimonies to read, and I decided to apply to a practitioner for help. The latter declared herself ready to take up the work, and explained to me a number of Biblical statements which heretofore had been incomprehensible to me. My faith in God's help was strengthened; however, the fact that I allowed material sense to voice its claims and permitted doubt to enter my consciousness, caused the healing to be protracted. After having had treatment for quite a while, I thought I might try to understand the power of infinite good myself through the reading of the Herold and the Bible. One day I suddenly felt quite ill and was taken with severe headache, and as this condition prevailed the next day, I asked a practitioner for help. She gave me some literature and took up treatment. On the following day I was able to resume my work, to my great satisfaction, and the headaches have never returned.
This proof of the efficacy of Christian Science renewed my courage in holding on to the truth. My own efforts were not sufficient, however, as there was much inharmony in me, as well as in my environment, which had to be overcome. I therefore once more applied to a practitioner, but several weeks went by before the healing of my leg took place, owing to the very gradual emergence of my thought out of error. One day, when I took off the bandage without taking any thought, I found that my leg was healed, and it has remained so. This was twelve months or more ago.
