When I look back and compare the past with the present...
When I look back and compare the past with the present, after four years of trying to live the truth as taught in Christian Science, I find every condition improved upon. The old way of doing business was mostly under stimulation by the use of liquor and cigars to pave the way; now, having the standard of Principle to work from, I find myself imbued with moral courage and the way clear to meet business or any other conditions fearlessly.
I feel that I owe an endless debt of thankfulness to God, and to the teachings of that life-giving book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, for my healing from many vices. This book was in our home for many months before I picked it up to learn how my wife was healed during one week's treatment in Christian Science, after years of suffering; and before I had read it through, the liquor habit of twenty-five years' standing had left me.
In a short time the tobacco habit of many years also disappeared, and I am thankful to say the healing has been permanent. When I take my place each Sunday with forty men ushers in a Christian Science church, and see the cleanliness and purity of these men as God's children, free from tobacco and all other taints, I consider that a great privilege has been given to me.
