The Lectures

In accordance with the general plan of democratic government in Christian Science churches, The Mother Church Manual grants all power to initiate arrangements for a Christian Science lecture to the church or society desiring it. The board of lectureship, therefore, is not permitted to select the lecturer for any church or society, and it keeps no record of the whereabouts of its members. A church or society applying for a lecture should correspond, through its clerk, with that member of the board of lectureship whose services are desired, at his address as given in the lecture circular. Joint lectures, however, may be arranged for through special committees representing the local churches.

The church-membership is the host in giving a lecture to the public, and the host naturally should be present, else the guests may remain away for lack of interest. Should the host reach such proportions as to exclude the guests from the limited quarters provided, then the host as naturally would permit the guests to be seated first.

The increased cooperation among Scientists in arranging for lectures has effected such a wonderful harmony as to invite the highest appreciation from the lecturers; and the loving encouragement which they extend to the workers is reciprocally blest. The spontaneity of loving cooperation has proved more winsome to the press; for it is much easier to publish reports of the lecture and frequently their publication is invited. We are not unmindful nor unappreciative of the far-reaching results of the distribution of the Monitor in advance of the lecture. That work seems to arouse a splendid interest in the coming lecture.
