Before coming into Christian Science I had been suffering...
Before coming into Christian Science I had been suffering for years from what was pronounced organic heart disease. I had many doctors, but their remedies did not help me, and two physicians said I could not live. One doctor, a friend, who examined me, asked me what I wished done about my burial.
A friend advised me to try Christian Science, but I scorned this advice, saying it was nothing but religious fanaticism. Nevertheless, one evening as I was passing the hall where the Christian Science meetings were held, I decided to go in, and I shall never forget the cheerful expression on the faces of those in that crowded hall. I listened attentively to the many interesting testimonies of healing. On learning that the first reader was also a practitioner, I sought her office early the next morning, and I shall always remember how kindly she greeted me and asked if I had come to learn something of Christian Science. I told her what the doctors had said about my physical condition, and she smiled and said, "You know that God made everything perfect." I had been a regular church attendant all my life, but that word "perfect" came to me with a new meaning, and I was instantaneously healed. I left the Scientist's office as one new-born. After that I secured a copy of Science and Health, and now I have all of our Leader's writings.
Why should any one wonder that we should love Mrs. Eddy for the truth she has made so plain? I am indeed deeply grateful to her. Every day I am gaining a better understanding of the Bible and of what God really is.
