When I went to a Christian Science practitioner for relief...
When I went to a Christian Science practitioner for relief from a serious eye trouble, also near-sightedness, I was told to lay aside the glasses that I had worn for twenty-four years. One week's treatment relieved the inflammation, and led me to seek in the Bible and the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, the law that made possible this help which oculists and physicians were unable to give. Over five years have passed since then, and I have never used glasses in all this time.
My daily work at present requires cutting and measurement of metal to the ten thousandth part of an inch exactness. Formerly, when I used glasses and was without any understanding of the truth, I had discomfort and sickness; now all day and six days every week my work is done with no trouble. Whereas I used to suffer almost constantly from neuralgia and rheumatism, now I have simply occasional symptoms, but symptoms only. As I apply Christian Science to daily life there is great gain, and I have been able to prove many teachings of the Bible. Especially have I been shown that I must follow Christ Jesus' instruction and become as a little child if I would gain a demonstrable understanding of this truth.
Many erroneous beliefs have been easily laid aside, though others were more strongly entrenched, but all have gradually been displaced by the truth. Many proofs of the power of Truth have come to me in the overcoming of general poor health and the demonstration of abundant employment. I would like to tell of the help I received at the time of a serious accident, in which I sustained severe injuries. While my understanding did not enable me to rise above this condition immediately, yet with help received from others there was proof of the healing efficacy of Christian Science. A hospital physician pronounced the nose broken and stitched the flesh together, but after twenty-four hours it had so healed that he stated it could not have been broken. The shoulder healed about two weeks ahead of the time predicted. Of the leg wound it was said that "sometimes such wounds never heal," but these material laws were set aside by the truth.
