Permit me to correct a certain statement made by a clergyman...

Fergus Falls (Minn.) Journal

Permit me to correct a certain statement made by a clergyman in a lecture reported in a recent issue. Christian Science is the exact antipode of suggestion, hypnotism, or their allied subjects. The healing power, as manifested through Christian Science practice, is the result of a demonstrable faith in God, and the effect, not of the human mind, but of the divine Mind, or Spirit, upon which all churches rely for the saving power of the soul, as they put it, and to which Christian Science adds also the healing power of the body. Mrs. Eddy says, in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "They regard the human mind as a healing agent, whereas this mind is not a factor in the Principle of Christian Science" (Pref., p. x).

Christian Science heals on the same basis that Jesus healed. Its followers accept literally the fulfilment of his promise, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do."
