The Herald
I was very much surprised and disappointed, coming down on a street-car this week, to see that one of our local pastors had on his church bulletin-board this sign: "Religious Fads—Eddyism, or Christian Science."
I had thought the religious world too far advanced to have one denomination occupying the whole service in denouncing another. Fads—well, there certainly are thousands who must enjoy fads, to note the number who have identified themselves with Christian Science and the rapid growth of that faith in Duluth and all over the world. I have no particular sympathy with Christian Science, not understanding it thoroughly (and I also question whether this pastor does), but I do admire the Christlike spirit in which its adherents go about their work, and the toleration they have for all who do not believe as they do. My personal belief is, that if God is back of the Science movement it will succeed, and if not, it will fall to the ground, and no amount of such preaching against it will prevail. I sincerely hope the time will soon be here when all those who preach unity of churches and denominations will actually practise what they preach, and give a message from the pulpit that shall be constructive to the best interests of all God's people.
