In the winter of 1908 I had a severe attack of influenza
In the winter of 1908 I had a severe attack of influenza. It manifested itself especially by pain in the chest, difficulty in breathing, etc. I wrote to some relatives whom I had expected to visit, telling them of my condition, at the same time requesting them to ask one of my friends, a Christian Scientist, to give me treatment. I soon felt better, though I was unable to leave my bed. In the mean time a letter came from this friend, and it was so filled with truth and love that, while reading it, I forgot all about the discordant conditions, and I was able to get up immediately. I then packed my things and started on my ten hours' trip at the appointed hour, reaching my destination in a state of such well-being that it was a matter of surprise to myself; the illness seemed to me like a dream from which I had awakened. It became clear to me that disease, worry, and trouble are indeed only a dream which seems real, but which disappears as we awake in God's likeness, as we understand that we are children of ever-present wisdom and Love.
I am deeply thankful to God for the light of Truth which has often protected, strengthened, and comforted me in times of trouble.—Marie Triebel, Kempen, Rhein, Germany.
