Before Christian Science awakened my thought to a true understanding of God, I doubt if a more unhappy individual could have been found anywhere, owing to constant physical inharmony and a great fear of what might await me at the time of so-called death. How I could ever become good enough to go to heaven, was a problem so far beyond my comprehension that before I was twelve years old I had decided that if I were doomed to go to the "bad place" eventually, I might as well go as wait to be sent. This resulted in an almost unceasing thought of self-destruction.

A little more than three years ago Christian Science came to my rescue, releasing me from the terrible bondage of fear of the future and bringing healing for numerous physical ailments. I had been studying Science and Health two or three months when I experienced a severe attack of blood-poisoning. For about three days I tried to help myself, but my understanding was so slight that the condition grew steadily worse, and seeing the need of immediate relief I called a Christian Science practitioner. At that time my entire system seemed to be affected. I had fever, nausea, also pain in every part of my body, and extreme sleepiness; and in addition, the affected limb had a most angry appearance. It was on Wednesday afternoon that I called for help, and on Saturday afternoon of the same week the healing was complete.

A slight spinal curvature had supposedly been straightened by the careful efforts of a specialist when I was about twelve years old, but the severe pain remained to be destroyed through Christian Science treatment. Besides these ills, a New York specialist told me six years ago, that unless a catarrhal growth which was giving me much trouble was removed, it would become a serious matter; but Christian Science has also overcome that difficulty. The same specialist faithfully treated me for four different ailments in an unsuccessful attempt to learn the cause of severe headaches. These, too, have disappeared with my study of Christian Science.
